The Teacher

Greg Catellier has been working in the field of contemporary dance for thirty years. This includes dancing in works of his own and others, choreographing dances for students and professionals, and designing lighting and sets for dances. He teaches dance, choreography, and design at Emory University. He has also supported dance artists and dance festivals through technical support and dance organizations through advising on dance facilities and technical challenges. Catellier earned a BA in dance from Arizona State University and an MFA in dance from The Ohio State University. He is living proof that a dance education can provide a well-rounded education and an investigative approach to the world. He believes firmly in the power of dance to transform those dancing and those watching the dance. He also believes firmly that we all need to take steps to mitigate the environmental crisis, battle for environmental justice, and take personal responsibility for our effects on the natural world. He continues to work on making his work and life less of a burden on the environment. He say’s “please, stop burning stuff.” Kristin O’Neal resides in Atlanta, GA, performs a bit, teaches a lot, and choreographs when the spirit moves her. Her contemporary modern technique classes include a deep investigation into how one’s body operates within a movement framework that invites curiosity, discovery, and always one’s relationship to space and time. Sustainability and efficiency are deeply considered in Kristin’s dance and movement practice. By considering the amount of muscular effort needed to fulfill a movement, she enjoys sharing this mode of efficiency regularly with students at Emory University as well as with the Atlanta Dance and Contact Improvisation communities. Kristin’s role as Outreach Coordinator for National Water Dance supports her sustainable dancing lifestyle by highlighting dance as the vehicle to take action on the water crisis in our country. She finds pleasure in mobilizing folx to take action on climate change and fight for environmental justice while sharing the joy of dancing with audiences. She spends her summers at the Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, ME dancing and working as the Box Office Manager for the live performance series, where the front-of-house team prides itself on paperless ticketing as well as electronic programs. On occasion, Kristin will create a solo dance based loosely on the life of one of my great aunts or grandmothers, always with a recycled costume and typically donning one of their personal handkerchiefs, broochs, or clip earrings. Finally, she earned a couple of dance degrees that can often feel insignificant; however, they fueled me with a life-long practice of dancing and engagement with a community of humans who continue to inspire me to research and evolve.
