Marsi Burns (Dance Artist, Choreographer, Teacher and Mentor) was born and bred in NYC where she received an M.A. in Dance and Dance Education from Columbia University. Marsi, a mature improvisational dance artist, is grateful to be able to continue to perform in traditional and unconventional settings, often collaborating with musicians, vocal, visual and performing artists. Early in her career she choreographed for musical theater, concert dance and film. Marsi’s work as a choreographer/performer has been presented in noted NYC dance concert venues Joyce Soho, DTW (now NYLA), Westbeth Gallery, Movement Research at Judson Church, DNA (now Gibney), 92nd St.Y, Winter Garden, Greenspace, West End Theater and BAAD. She has performed in sitespecific works at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, South Street Seaport, Governors Island, Hudson River Museum, Katonah Museum of Art and most recently Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in 2017. She was honored to be commissioned by Dancing In The Streets in 2016 to create a site specific work for 16 multigenerational dancers and non-dancers in “Dancing Through The Bronx”. She returned to Pa. in 2018 to present her work in the first MilfordDanceFest. Marsi has taught dance in Colleges and high schools and was a Co-founder of HSCA, High School of Contemporary Arts in NYC. She was a Mentor for Lincoln Center Scholars Program and was a Teaching Artist/Dancer with Naomi Goldberg and the Variable Population in NYC. She is a proud member of the Margie Beals Improvisational Group since 1990. Marsi loves living in Sarasota and is thrilled to be a teaching artist for SCD. Her passion for Improvisation, teaching and working with diverse populations continues to grow. She is establishing an Intergenerational Improvisation Dance Co. for dancers and non-dancers (ages18-90) in Sarasota. Thank you Leymis and SCD for welcoming me with open arms.
